Upper Level Courses
300-400 level courses are on special topics and are more advanced. They often presuppose some basic knowledge in the field and should be more difficult courses than courses at the 1-199 levels. The department is trying to insure that some 400 level courses, although substantially more difficult, are also small in size; they thus may be suitable for graduate students.

Due to a rostering error, all students MUST register for both the Lecture, HIST421.001, and the Recitation, HIST421.201. However, there will NOT be a Recitation for this course. The recitation you sign up for is a dummy section we created to fix the mistake, but if you DO NOT sign up for it the system will drop you from the course. Students who have already enrolled in a different section, 202-209, should DROP that section and ADD HIST421.201. Professor McDougall will lecture Tues/Thurs 10:30-12 as planned. We apologize for the confusion, and hope you enjoy the course.
