This course surveys British History from its prehistoric origins to the Glorious Revolution of 1688. This period saw the transformation of Britain from a minor nation to one of the most significant powers in Europe . The course will examine Britain 's early history through its major events, personalities, social trends, politics, arts and sciences to try to understand the causes and consequences of the great changes that took place. One of the most important aspects of this will involve an examination of, and writing about, some of the many rich primary sources that document this phenomena. Van Pelt Library has a very strong collection of original early modern documents and students will get the opportunity to work with some unusual sources that are literally hundreds of years old
