Lees

Taught as schedule allows (consult the Course Directory)

This course follows the development of modern Britain into a self-consciously multi-cultural society shaped by Parliament in dialogue with monarchs and "the people". The rise and decline of an overseas empire and its relation to domestic history form major themes in the course, as do the impacts of industrialization and urbanization. Discussions center on sources.
