A broad overview of American economic history will be provided by focusing on the following topics: colonial trade patterns, the growth of the market economy, industrial expansion, the political economy of slavery, the rise of the corporation, business cycles and crises, changes in work and labor markets, the advent of the regulatory and welfare state, deindustrialization, globalization, and the current state of the American economy in historical perspective.
