This research seminar will allow students to investigate selected topics in the most complex and controversial era of American History. After exploring general themes of political, economic, social and racial change resulting from the War, Emancipation, and industrialization, students will select specific themes for intensive research in primary and secondary sources. Paper proposals and research findings will be critiqued and analyzed by seminar participants. Final drafts will also be circulated and critiqued by the group.
