HIST 204 Wall Street: A Cultural History

Fraser

Taught as schedule allows (consult the Course Directory)

SEM

This course examines the way Wall Street has, over two centuries, saturated the lives of ordinary Americans. Political tracts, novels, cartoons, poetry, movies, magazine articles, along with historical accounts, will be used to explore the Street's impact on our political culture, literary and popular arts as well as the country's religious and moral dilemmas. How did Wall Street migrate from the dark to the light side of the American imagination and what does that tell us about the evolution of American culture generally?
