Upper level courses are on special topics and are more advanced. They often presuppose some basic knowledge in the field and should be more difficult courses than courses at the 1-199 levels.

This course examines the history of African American women as workers, writers, activists, intellectuals, artists, and leaders.  It will include close readings of memoirs, oral interviews, and published writings by and about black women in the twentieth century.  Lively discussions and active participation are expected and encouraged.  Some familiarity with African American history is helpful but not required; all are welcome.
