Description: 
This course will explore the shape, role and impact of media in the United States from the nation's founding to the present. As we examine evolving forms of print, film, radio and television over two centuries, we will study how Americans have integrated media into their lives and how the media has helped shape Americans' understandings of their society. We will begin by discussing the 18th and 19th centuries, but will move rapidly to consider the 20th century to explore the creation and significance of a mass media on American political, cultural and social history.
