HIST206 - TRADE,TRAVEL&EXPLORATION

Description:
This research seminar will concentrate on the effects of trade, travel and exploration on economic development from the early modern era to the present. One of the most important aspects of this course will involve an examination of, working with, and writing about, some of the many rich primary sources that document these phenomena. Special Collections in Van Pelt Library has a very strong collection of original early modern books and documents and you will get the opportunity to work with sources that are literally hundreds of years old. Our writing projects will involve the examination of writings broadly concerning trade, travel and exploration from the sixteenth century to the near present, to learn firsthand about their effect on economic development.
