HIST670 - TOPICS: TRANSREGIONA HIS: POSTWARS & RECONSTRUCTNS

Description:
This course attempts to see what can be gained by working across the usual field designations of time and space to identify perseverant challenges posed in, and faced by, post-war societies in the modern period. Casting a large net from the late eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth century it looks at the process of rebuilding after wars in cases both of international and civil war. The course will be organized thematically (such themes as Ways of War, Occupations and Political Reconstructions, Vengeance and Justice, Archives and Cultural Memory). The reading list is not finalized but will certainly include work on the Napoleonic War, American Civil War, Spanish Civil War and WWII.
