Susan A. Miller
History Undergraduate Advisor & Lecturer
Susan A. Miller is the undergraduate advisor for the Department of History. She received a B.A. (psychology) and M.S. (secondary education) from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Women's Studies from the University of York, England. After a seven-year career as a high school math and history teacher, she completed a Ph.D. in Penn's History and Sociology of Science Department. She is the author of Growing Girls: The Natural Origins of Girls' Organizations in America (Rutgers University Press, 2007).
Dr. Miller taught at Georgetown University and Rollins College before returning to Penn, where she teaches in a variety of departments—history, women's studies, and history & sociology of science. While her scholarship is focused on late 19th- and early 20th- century America, her interests range from sports and sexuality to youth culture and environmental history.
