Personal Statement
This is the year that I complete my dissertation—a twentieth century educational history of Mexican Americans in Chicago. Penn has supported my past efforts with a Fontaine Fellowship and a Critical Writing Teaching Fellowship. I also have received generous support from the Spencer Foundation and the Illinois State Historical Society. Besides my doctorate, I am also pursuing the Graduate Certificate in Urban Studies and the Teaching Certificate from the Center for Teaching and Learning. When not researching and writing, I usually try to de-stress by training for any one of the numerous distance races held in and around Philadelphia throughout the year. Originally a Chicago native, I now live, work, and run in West Philly.
