Research Interests
The city in history; Urban politics and identity in early modern Europe; Writing urban history and chronicles in early modern Europe and Spain; Popular politics in (Spanish, but also Spanish American) urban settings; the Comunero Revolt (1521) and other instances of riot and rebellion – but also anything that might be thought of as 'political' behaviour (1500-1640). In this sense I'm interested in questions of community, identity, and popular forms of association (guilds, confraternities), above all in sixteenth-century Seville.
Examined FIelds
Early Modern Spain and the Spanish World; Early Modern European and Colonial Urban History; Early Modern Historiography and Cultural History.
