Personal Statement:

I am a second year PhD student interested in the end of empire and the emergence of new states in the aftermath of the First World War. I primarily study the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, but my focus on the South Caucasus means that I do so with a strong attention towards the entanglements and parallel developments taking place in the Ottoman, Turkish, and Iranian contexts.

Research Interests:

Russian history; Soviet history; Azerbaijan and the Caucasus; Ottoman and Turkish history; Iranian history; empire; nationalism; state-building.
