Peter Roethke

Ph.D. Candidate

Peter Roethke is a Ph.D. candidate in history with a focus on early modern central Europe. Peter practiced law prior to his doctoral program and remains a licensed attorney. In 2021/2022 he was a Fulbright Scholar at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Eichstätt, Germany.  His research encompasses the emergence of social norms, the history of corruption, legal history, and the history of early modern Europe. He is currently completing his dissertation on the corruption jurisprudence of the Imperial Aulic Council, or Reichshofrat, of the Holy Roman Empire in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
