I study modern European intellectual history, especially the history of social and political thought, from the mid 19th century to the Second World War, with particular interests in Marx and his legacies, the histories of republicanism and liberalism in Germany, and the history of history. I am particularly interested in how small political organizations respond to big political events, and in the transfer of ideas through migration. I have some background and strong interests in the history of media and the histories of the humanities and the natural sciences.
