Description: 
This course will trace the major social and cultural developments of the 1950s, a fascinating yet misunderstood era in American history. A number of topics will be discussed including the Cold War, the Civil Rights movement, suburbanization, the rise of television, youth culture, the birth of rock 'n roll music, and the role of women. Requirements will include active participation in the seminar, a short response paper, and a longer research paper.
