HIST620 - COLLOQ: EUROPEAN HISTORY: 19C EUR INTEL & CULT HIS

Description:
This course will examine selected movements and figures in nineteenth-century European intellectual and cultural history. The goal of the course is twofold: to deepen students' knowledge of this pivotal period and to introduce them to the methodological approaches and interpretive debates that are presently animating the field of intellectual and cultural history. Accordingly, readings from major figures like Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud will be tied closely to recent historical scholarship and current debates about intellectual history.
