Juan Pablo Ardila-Falla received the 2018 Nancy M. Farriss Graduate Student Paper Award from the Latin American and Latino Studies Program at the University of Pennsylvania for his paper, “The Proclaimed City: Oral and Written Culture during the Comunero Revolt in Colonial New Granada.”

The award committee found the paper’s analysis of the interplay of oral and written culture and its impact on the Comunero revolt fascinating and compelling, and noted that the paper is beautifully written, meticulously researched, and well framed.
